TO-SHIN DO MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING
Bridging the gap between the timeless wisdom of the East and the fresh pragmatism of the West, To-Shin Do explores the fullness of human potential in the physical, mental, and spiritual realms. The Boulder Quest Center focuses on the To-Shin Do martial technologies that will allow you to evolve into a tatsujin-a fully actualized human operating effectively in all areas of life. We specialize in "the art of winning."
Level 1: Fundamentals of Self Protection
Experience how to win in the 12 assault types most likely to occur in a dangerous confrontation, practice how to rescue others in those 12 threat situations, learn 12 natural body self-defense tools, and develop the grounded presence of focused command in high-pressure situations.
Level 2: Advanced Self Protection
Build your skills in success-generating principles of personal confidence, ability to recognize potential danger as it builds, and capability to respond effectively under pressure as you explore a further set of 24 advanced applications of winning skill and strategy to develop the eyes and mind to recognize danger as it builds so you can be in just the right place at just the right moment to control the fight on your terms.
Level 3: Path of the Protector
Your training evolves into a personal exploration of power, a path of self-discovery. This level of skill and confidence evolves as you explore a final set of 24 advanced applications in the course leading to Black Belt in To-Shin Do®. You know you are living up to your fullest potential, the “exciting peace” of coming home to the truth of just how strong you really are.
Level 4: Black Belt Mastery
Learning doesn’t stop with earning a Black Belt - that’s where highest mastery begins! You personalize your training for a winning spirit in all of life’s challenges. Advanced skills you develop include how to use less effort to generate more speed and power, how to respond with grace and intelligence when confronted with brutality and ignorance, how to rescue and protect others, and how to deal with multiple attackers, assailants with weapons, or aggressors skilled in street-fighting or other martial arts.
Along the way to black belt mastery and beyond, there are also options for safe and stimulating training in modern and classical weapons, including knife, baton, sword, staff, chain, rope, and throwing blades.

BOULDER BLUE LOTUS ASSEMBLY MEDITATION PROGRAM
Our meditation program is inspired by the depth of ancient spiritual practice with the accessibility of modern educational theory. Join us for weekly introspective classes exploring the role of the mind in determining the outcome of daily experiences. This exploration is profoundly relevant to students of our martial lineage as well as those who choose not to engage in the martial arts now.
Your journey starts best on Thursday nights in our Centering class. You'll explore skills for calming and focusing your mind, methods for realizing and visualizing goals, and ways of sensing subtle changes in the people, energies, and spaces around us. This lays the groundwork for being very present in the moment, aware of oneself, one's situation, and one's desires. Optionally, after several months of weekly practice, this foundation could be built upon with our Advanced Meditation classes exploring your personal vision for mental and spiritual accomplishment. There is also a specialty class on Saturday afternoons for those who specifically want to explore Japanese Buddhist sutra recitation.
One of the great benefits of our program is that it is designed to reflect and inform your experience of everyday life. You don't have to retreat from your responsibilities or live like a monastic in order to develop your spirit and mind. Your life is the venue for your progress.

Although the Blue Lotus Assembly lineage has strong roots in Japanese Tendai and Tibetan vajrayana Buddhism, it is ultimately an American order seeking to enhance the human experience through meditation and contemplation. As such, meditation at the Boulder Quest Center emphasizes personal experiences that are shared by all people everywhere, regardless of path or organizational affiliation. MIGHTY DRAGONS
In the Mighty Dragons class, kids between 4 and 6 years old have fun while they gain confidence, body awareness, and basic ways to protect themselves. Along the way, these students "learn how to learn" by developing group interaction skills, self-discipline, focus, and respect for others.
We believe in an abundance of praise, encouragement, and positive reinforcement. Our young students are treated with respect and are taught to return the same respect to others.
Classes are designed with consideration of the short attention spans of younger students. Leaping, ducking, rolling, and dodging skills are all taught as methods of avoidance. Elaborate obstacle courses and games have been created to best teach these skills in a way that keeps the energy high and the learning exciting. The classes are safe and non-competitive.
LIFE-ENHANCING SKILLS YOUR CHILD WILL GAIN AT THE QUEST CENTER
- Gross and fine motor movement
- Athletic injury-avoidance
- Danger avoidance
- Positive social interaction
- Decision making
- Body awareness
- Environment awareness
- Personal discipline
- Focus
